Happy Easter! We awoke to snow falling and had a beautiful day visiting king Ludwig II's castles - Schloss Hohenschwangau and Schloss Nieuschwanstein. Ludwig was the last king of Bavaria and was really only a puppet king after the establishment of the German Reich in 1871. He spent lots of money building elaborate castles in a supposedly medieval style, and was obsessed with the operas of Richard Wagner, French culture and King Louis XIV. It's great to have Eliza with us on our travels.
